RECAP
In his first start as a Wave, Olvera also scored the first bucket of the game on a turnaround jumper. The next two minutes of play were stagnant, only scoring from the free throw line, but UC Davis nailed a three to get the Aggies on the board. Pepperdine followed with a 9-0 run and didn't look back, holding UCD to 27% from the field and 13% from long range while the Waves stretched their lead to 24 heading into the locker rooms at a 43-19 lead.
The Aggies attempted a run to open the second half but the Waves thwarted the effort by the way of another Olvera bucket– this time on a fast break three. In fact, Pepperdine had a better shooting half in the latter 20 minutes than the former, going .536 from the field compared to the 50% from the first stanza. The highlight of the game occurred with eight minutes to play on an Odum steal-induced fastbreak where the guard flipped the ball off the backboard for a trailing
Boubacar Coulibaly who dunked the oop over a UC Davis defender. Pepperdine would expand the lead to 42 following a
Kyle Braun three and leading to an 85-46 final.
