LOS ANGELES — The Pepperdine women's tennis team finished competing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Sectional Championships, held at Marks Tennis Center at USC on Saturday.
Competing for an NCAA Singles Championship bid in a quarterfinal playoff, Sophomore Vivian Yang fell in straight sets to Lan Mi of California, 6-2, 6-4. In a lopsided first set, Mi won the first four games of the first set before Yang held serve in the fifth game. The second set fared better for Yang, who rallied back from losing an early break point to tie the match at four games all. However, Mi won a decisive break point over Yang in the ninth game, then served out the match to win 6-2, 6-4.
Yang's fall season is not over. She and doubles partner Savannah Broadus will compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship in Waco, Texas, which starts on Nov. 19. Draws and start times will be announced in the coming weeks.
