#22 Pepperdine Draws Saint Mary's in Moraga

The #22 Pepperdine women's soccer team tied for the fifth time this season, ending the trip to Moraga with a 1-1 result against Saint Mary's.

With an even 11 shots and two corners per team, the Waves (11-3-5, 5-1-3) held steady with the Gaels (7-6-4, 4-2-3). Pepperdine was called for 14 fouls compared to Saint Mary's seven, not including the four yellow cards that were dished out between the two squads.

On trend with this season, the Waves struck early. For the third match in a row, graduate Tori Waldeck (Newhall, Calif.) found the back of the net. Dishing the ball from the Waves half of the field, sophomore Peyton Leonard (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) found freshman Elle Quinn (Folsom, Calif.) in the midfield who placed the ball perfectly at Waldeck's foot. Taking it from there, Waldeck was able to drill the ball from the left side of the box with her right foot into the back of the net.

At half, Pepperdine led 1-0.

Saint Mary's found the equalizer in the 59th minute. Sydney Middaugh took advantage of chaos in Pepperdine's six yard box, poking the ball in from directly in front of the net.

Both teams would grow frustrated near the end of the match, resulting in a flurry of yellow cards and no tangible offensive progress. At the end of 90, it was a 1-1 draw.

"Really proud of the women this afternoon! Tough place to play against a very good Saint Mary's squad." Head coach TIm Ward said. "We had a few moments where we could have won that game late. They played a really strong second half and we dodged a bullet or two as well! On to the next!!!"

With just one match to go in the regular season, the West Coast Conference standings are chaotic. Pepperdine is currently tied for first with Santa Clara, although the Broncos own the goal differential by +4. While this means the Waves would not get the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, they would split the title of regular season champions with Santa Clara.

GOALS
11' | Waldeck's tenth of the season was a picture perfect finish of a string of nice passes down the field.
59' |  Saint Mary's Middaugh scored from directly inside Pepperdine's six yard box.
