Broadus' NCAA Run Ends in the Round of 16

WACO, Texas — Pepperdine women's tennis senior Savannah Broadus' season came to an end with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to 2-seed Dasha Vidmanova of Georgia in the NCAA Singles Championship round of 16 on Thursday morning.

On an upset-heavy third day of the tournament in Waco, Broadus was one of four seeded players who saw their seasons end. Despite the result, the five-time All-American made not only the best NCAA singles run of her career, but also the deepest singles postseason run for Pepperdine since Broadus' former teammate Lisa Zaar made the quarterfinals in 2022.

Going up against Vidmanova's powerful serve and groundstrokes, Broadus tried rebounding from the 6-2 first set by trading breaks with Vidmanova early in the second set. A rare Vidmanova double-fault on deuce point put the match back on serve until the seventh game. The turning point of the match came on deciding point in the seventh game, in which Broadus was broken on her second serve to give Vidmanova the 4-3 advantage.

From there, Vidmanova consolidated the break and won one more break point to move on to the quarterfinals. She is the highest-seeded player left in the women's draw.

Broadus ends her fall season with a 10-3 record — including six wins over opponents in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings — and as the No. 8 player in the country. Her 113 career wins rank third-most in Pepperdine history.

A full Pepperdine women's tennis spring schedule is forthcoming.
