Pepperdine Set for Trailblazer Invite and Trojan Diving Invitational

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive program is set to finish the 2024 competition calendar with the Trailblazer Invite and the Trojan Diving Invitational this week.

TRAILBLAZER INVITE — The Pepperdine swimmers are headed to St. George Utah for the Trailblazer Invite for this year's mid-season championship meet starting on Thursday and going through Saturday. The invite will be hosted by Utah Tech, who the Waves previously competed against in Malibu at the Rodionoff Invite earlier this year. Pepperdine came out on top in that invite and will look to do the same this weekend.

Prelims will start at 9 a.m. PT with finals to follow at 4 p.m. PT on all days of competition. The top 32 women will qualify for the finals, while only the top 16 will be scored.

Along with the hosts, other teams competing at the meet include California Baptist, Cal State Bakersfield, Fresno State, Northern Colorado, San Diego, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego and Pacific.

TROJAN DIVING INVITATIONAL — The Pepperdine divers will make the short trip to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete at the Trojan Diving Invitational starting on Friday and going through Sunday.

The Waves will compete in the 1-meter competition on Friday, the 3-meter competition on Saturday and the Platform competition on Sunday. Prelims will start at 11 a.m. on all days, with finals to follow shortly after. The top 18 divers from the prelims will qualify for the finals in the 1-meter and 3-meter, while the top 12 divers will qualify for the finals in the platform competition.

Other teams competing at the Trojan Diving Invitational include California Baptist, Northern Colorado, University of Nevada, Reno, UNLV, and USC.

AWARDS — The Waves have tallied three conference weekly awards this season. Most recently, Madeline Wheeler earned MPSF Athlete of the Week honors on November 19 after becoming the sixth fastest Wave in program history to complete the 1650 free. She finished her swim in 17:39.57, which was also a season-best time for the Waves. Wheeler also clocked a 5:18.83 in the 500 free, good for the seventh fastest time by a Wave during the 2024-25 campaign.

Alexandra Browne garnered the MPSF Athlete of the Week award on October 29. Prior to the honor, Browne won all four of her events in Pepperdine's dual meet against Westmont at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. She helped the Waves 400 medley and 200 free relay teams take first, while also winning both of her individual races.

Vivian Vallely earned the MPSF Athlete of the Week award on October 8. Highlighted by her second place finish with a score of 283.50 in the 3-meter competition on Friday, Vallely qualified for NCAA Zones in the event for the second year in a row. She then earned another second place finish as she totaled 254.95 points in the 1-meter competition on Saturday.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL — The Waves last competed on Saturday in a double dual meet against UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego. Although Pepperdine lost both meets, the Waves had six swimmers crack the all-time top-10 list. Emme Spevak (200 fly, 2:06.29, 4th)/(100 fly, 57.70, 10th), Anna Ryan (200 free, 1:53.27, 5th), Lexie Deitemeyer (100 fly, 57.22, 5th), Madeline Wheeler (1650 free, 17:39.57, 6th), Nora Rabe (200 breast, 2:22.30, 7th) and AJ Adams (200 free, 1:53.63, 10th) all put their names in the record book.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN — The Waves return all three of their All-MPSF second team honorees from last year: Alexandra Browne (50 free), Kylie Taylor (100 back) and Amanda Wong (Platform). Pepperdine also boasts three swimmers who currently hold individual records - Browne (50 free, 100 IM), Taylor (100 back) and Lexi Haymart (500 free). Additionally, the team brings back everyone from last year's record-setting 200 free and 800 free relay teams in Browne, Layla Busquets, Anna Ryan, Taylor, AJ Adams, Lexi Fok, Ansley Halbach and Lindsay Hemming. The complete breakdown of the roster is seven seniors, fourteen juniors, eight sophomores and five freshman, which includes 28 returners and six newcomers.Â
