MALIBU, Calif. — Four Pepperdine women's tennis players will return to the courts this weekend at USC's Women of Troy Invite, which takes place at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles from Friday through Sunday.
Taylor Goetz, Alexia Harmon, Duru Söke and Vivian Yang will represent the Waves in the team's third tournament of the fall season. All players will compete in one doubles match and one singles match per day against teams from BYU, Tennessee, Wisconsin, UC Santa Barbara and the hosting USC Trojans. No NCAA at-large bids will be awarded at this event. All pertinent live stream and live stat links can be found on the women's tennis team's schedule page on pepperdinewaves.com.
On Friday at 10:15 a.m., the Waves will begin doubles play against Tennessee, which also made the final site of the NCAA Tournament last May. Pepperdine will also play Wisconsin in doubles before taking on the Badgers and the BYU Cougars in singles at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
Saturday's action begins at 10:30 a.m. with the Waves playing doubles against teams from BYU and Tennessee, then Pepperdine takes on Tennessee and USC in singles at 11:30 a.m. No love is lost between the Waves and Trojans, who last squared off at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center this past May in the NCAA Super Regionals.Â
The Women of Troy Invite concludes with Pepperdine facing USC in doubles at 9 a.m. on Sunday before the Waves take on Wisconsin, Tennessee and USC in singles action. The final flight of singles begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
This weekend will be the collegiate debut for Harmon, who was ranked 17th in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association Newcomer poll. The former blue-chip recruit from Nevada was part of a decorated recruiting class for the Waves, which was deemed the top mid-major class and the fifth-best in the nation according to the Tennis Recruiting Network.
Goetz, Söke and Yang all made their season debuts at the Battle in the Bay back in September. Yang went 2-0 in singles play before falling in straight sets to Oklahoma State All-American Ange Oby Kajuru, while Söke and Goetz went 2-2 in singles during their first collegiate tennis tournaments.
From here, the Waves head south to San Diego for the ITA Regionals: another shot at earning berths in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship. That tournament will be held jointly at the University of San Diego and San Diego State from Oct. 17-22.
