MALIBU – Two-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year and three-year standout for the Pepperdine men's basketball team, Dwayne Polee, will be inducted into the Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame this spring, as the department announced today. Â
Polee will be recognized prior to the game in an on-court celebration just before tip-off.Â
The Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1980. This year's inductee will join 131 individuals, 14 teams and eight special achievement recipients that have already been enshrined. To be eligible for induction, nominees must have competed, coached for or rendered an extraordinary service to Pepperdine University Athletics.Â
Â
ABOUT DWAYNE POLEE
Polee is the fourth men's basketball player to be inducted into the WCC Hall of Honor, joining all-time Pepperdine greats Doug Christie, Dana Jones, Dane Suttle and William "Bird" Averitt.Â
Â
After transferring to Pepperdine from UNLV, Polee made an immediate impact for the Waves. In 89 games with Pepperdine, Polee averaged 14.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while leading the Waves to back-to-back WCC titles in 1984-86. The dynamic point guard from Los Angeles was named WCC Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons, becoming the first Wave to accomplish that feat.Â
Â
Polee graduated from Pepperdine with a degree in physical education. The Los Angeles Clippers selected Polee in the third round (54th pick) of the 1986 NBA Draft, where he appeared in one season before playing internationally for Colima Lemaneros (Mexico) from 1989-91. He was also a member of the U.S. traveling team in Europe from 1987-89.
