Swim and Dive Set to Begin 2024 With two Different Competitions

MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine swim and dive program begins 2024 with two different competitions. The swimmers will head to Fresno, Calif. to compete against Fresno State on Friday and Saturday, while the divers will travel to UCLA to compete in the Bruin Diving Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The swimmers will travel to Fresno, Calif. to take on Fresno State on Friday and Saturday. Friday's meet will begin at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday's meet will commence at 11:00 a.m.

Pepperdine's six divers will head to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete in the Bruin Diving Invitational this weekend. Each day will begin at 10:30 a.m. On Friday, the Waves will compete in the 1-meter diving competition. Saturday will feature the 3-meter competition, and the divers will compete in the platform event on Sunday.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL — Last time out, Pepperdine had a successful weekend as the Waves won the La Verne Invite. Diving was highlighted by Vivian Vallely (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) who took first place in the 1-meter finals with a score of 265.80. She also took first place in the 3-meter finals while posting a score of 284.85. By winning both events, Vallely punched her ticket to the NCAA Zones in the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions which will take place in March.

The swimmers had strong performances as well. AJ Adams (Castle Rock, Colo./Valor Christian HS) had a strong showing in the 500 free; she finished the event in 5:03.18, which is good for eighth on the all-time top-10 list. Anna Ryan (Alamo, Calif./Monte Vista HS) took first in the 100 breaststroke as she swam the event in 1:04.34. Alexandra Browne (Arlington, Va./Washington-Liberty HS) had a stellar showing in the 50 free as she finished second overall in the finals. She also took first in the 100 IM finals after she swam the event in 57.65. Browne set two new school records in the 50 free and the 100 IM as she posted a time of 23.26 in the 50 free prelims and clocked a time of 57.32 in the 100 IM prelims.

UP NEXT — After this weekend, the Waves will travel to San Diego, Calif. to take on San Diego State in a dual meet on Friday, Jan. 19. Pepperdine will also compete in the WCC Cup on Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday Jan. 20.
