Pepperdine and LSU Draw 2-2

BATON ROUGE, La.  –  After playing the first 45 and a two and a half hour lightning delay the Pepperdine women's soccer team collected a 2-2 tie against LSU on Thursday evening at LSU Soccer Stadium. In the third-ever meeting between the two programs, this marked the third tie.

The Waves (2-0-5) scored two beautiful goals early on in the first half, but the Tigers (4-2-1) cut the deficit to one before heading into the break. Half time was longer than expected due to lightning and LSU was able to score the equalizer in the final 10 minutes. Pepperdine scored within the first minute of play, but was ruled offside.

GOALS

Pepperdine 20': Sophomore midfielder Karina Gonzalez (Sanger, Calif./Hallmark Charter School) sent a beautiful right-footed long ball from the defensive side of the midfield circle to senior forward Tori Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS). Waldeck then beat the LSU defender and as the keeper went to play the ball, Waldeck avoided the goalie by going to the left and sent a left-footed shot into the open net. This was Waldeck's first goal of the season.

Pepperdine 28': Waldeck made a move through two Tigers' defenders to get into the box, as she approached the back line near the goal, she sent a right-footed pass directly to the foot of senior Skylar Enge (Cardiff, Calif./Pacific Ridge School) who crashed into the goalie box. The ball made contact with Enge's foot, and a tap put the ball into the back of the net. This was Enge's second goal of the season.

LSU 35': LSU had a shot on goal that hit the right post and rebounded to the Tigers' Mollie Baker. Baker gained control of the ball and passed it to Ida Hermannsdottir. Hermannsdottiir then tapped the ball into the back of the net.

LSU 83': Tori Gillis of LSU brought the ball into the offensive zone and sent a long pass to Ava Galligan. Galligan made one turn and sent a shot from about 25 yards out into the back of the net.
