MALIBU, Calif. – After opening the 2023 last weekend on the right foot, the Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams are eager to be on home course hosting the Waves Invitational on Saturday morning. The Waves hosted this meet last season and the Pepperdine women collected a first-place team finish and the men earned a second-place finish.

MEET DETAILS
The meet will be held at picturesque Alumni Park on Pepperdine's campus in Malibu, with the men's 6K beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by the women's 4K at 9:45 a.m. The schools that will be competing are West Coast Conference foes Loyola Marymount, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary's, Christian Brothers, CSU Bakersfield, UC San Diego and USC. Admission to the Waves Invitational is free.
LAST TIME RACING
- The men's and women's teams opened up the 2023 season at LMU's South Bay Twilight last week, with the men collecting a third-place finish out of the five teams and the women notching a fifth-place finish.
- Freshmen Dominic Silhol (Mequon, Wis./Homestead HS) and Gordy Nilsen (Boulder, Colo./Fairview HS) led the men's squad with a 20th and 21st-place finish, both collecting a time of 25:55.8, respectively.
- Graduate student Will Bullock (Marietta, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain HS/Eastern Illinois) collected a 22nd-place finish.
- Freshman Hannah Miller (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak HS) led the women in the 6K with a time of 22:40.3, which was her first time running a collegiate race.
- Freshman Emma Martinez (Palmer, Pa./Palmerton HS) was the second finisher for the women in a time of 23:54.4, which was good for 31st.
- The Waves had seven runners make their debut at LMU's South Bay Twilight.

The Waves will head to Riverside, Calif., for the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16. The meet will begin with the women's invitational 6K at 7:15 a.m. and the men's 8K invitational will be at 7:50 a.m., respectively.
