CARY, N.C. — Pepperdine women's tennis graduate senior Anna Campana moved on in the pre-qualifying singles draw of the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday.
The senior from Hillsborough, Calif. earned the only victory for the Waves to start the week-long tournament, held in Cary, N.C. She beat Maryland graduate senior Selma Cadar 6-3, 6-2, setting up a match with Reece Carter of Arizona tomorrow at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. local time.
Earlier that day, Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) fell in a hard-fought opening-round match against Anna Zyryanova of NC State, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. The loss sent her to the consolation bracket, where she'll face Mariya Polishchuk of Texas Tech tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. PT.
Campana and Redelijk also opened doubles play against Maryland's Minorka Miranda and Maria Budin, where they fell 8-3. Tomorrow they'll take on Olivia Maria Castedo and Page Freeman of Notre Dame in the consolation doubles bracket at 3:30 p.m. PT.
