TULSA, Okla. — Pepperdine men's tennis players Linus Carlsson Halldin and George Davis played in two matches on the first day of the ITA All-American Championships, held in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday. Yet Carlsson Halldin is the only Wave still alive in singles play, as he'll continue in the round of 64 on Sunday at 8 a.m. PT.
Carlsson Halldin (Stockholm, Sweden) faced little resistance en route to a third-round berth on Sunday. The redshirt sophomore took on Bujag of St. John's, easily routing him 6-3. 6-0. From there, he cruised past Ix of Virginia Tech with a resounding 6-1, 6-0, straight-set win. Tomorrow, Halldin will take on Luke Baylis (Michigan State) at 8 a.m. PT/10 a.m. local time.
Elsewhere in the singles bracket, Davis (London, England) played in two hard-fought, three-set singles matches. He came out victorious against Hussein El Tawil of Drexel in a 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-0 win early Saturday afternoon, yet fell to Wichita State's Alejandro Jacome 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 later that night in the second round.
