SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Earning semifinal victories on Saturday, Pepperdine women's tennis players Savannah Broadus and Anna Campana will play in the Battle in the Bay doubles finals and consolation singles finals, respectively tomorrow.
Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Oklahoma State's Lucia Peyre overcame Peyre's teammates — Ange Oby Kajuru and Ayumi Miyamoto — 8-5 in the semifinals on Saturday morning. With the win, Broadus will go for her third-straight Battle in the Bay doubles title: Last year, she and teammate Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) won the title, plus she and Pepperdine alumna Anastasia Iamachkine won the doubles title in Broadus' freshman year.
Campana (Hillsborough, Calif.), meanwhile, had to win two matches to reach tomorrow's consolation singles final. She first dispatched Fresno State's Misaki Kobayashi 6-1, 6-2, then she beat Colorado's Aya El Sayed 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals. She will play Fresno State's Mariia Vyshkina in the consolation finals tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Earlier on Saturday, Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) and Campana fell in the doubles semifinal 8-2 to the 3-seed Angela Blake and Connie Ma of Stanford, dashing the chances of an all-Pepperdine doubles final. The Waves duo leaves San Francisco with a 2-1 record.
