SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Every member of the Pepperdine women's tennis team reached the doubles semifinals on the second day of the Battle in the Bay tournament in San Francisco, Calif.
Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) and Anna Campana (Hillsborough, Calif.) beat UC Santa Barbara's Amelia Honer and Camille Kiss 8-5 on Friday morning, setting up a semifinal match with 3-seed Connie Ma and Angelica Blake of Stanford. Meanwhile, Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Oklahoma State's Lucia Peyre ground out a 8-7 (7-1) win over Georgia's Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova to punch their ticket to the semifinals.
Should both teams win tomorrow, the Battle in the Bay doubles final will feature three Pepperdine players.
In singles, Broadus faced off against her doubles partner, Peyre of Oklahoma State, yet fell in three sets. Peyre prevailed 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 6-3 despite falling in the tiebreak in the first set.
Pepperdine's lone victory in the main singles draw came courtesy of Redelijk, who beat Georgia's Mai Nirundorn 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Yet she fell 6-1, 6-0 to 4-seed Ange Oby Kajuru of Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals later that evening.
Elsewhere in the singles consolation bracket, Campana cruised past Arizona graduate transfer Kayla Wilkins 6-2, 6-0. Campana received a bye in the round of 16 and will play against either Fresno State's Misaki Kobayashi or San Francisco's Erin Richardson in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday at noon.
