MALIBU, Calif. — For the third straight season, the Pepperdine women's tennis team will kick off its fall season at the Battle in the Bay tournament, hosted by the University of San Francisco at the California Tennis Center on Sept. 21-24.
All matches will be live streamed on Track Tennis and live stats will be provided on the tournament's website. Both links can be found on the women's tennis schedule page at pepperdinewaves.com.
Pepperdine will be sending Savannah Broadus, Nikki Redelijk and Anna Campana to the event, which has players from 21 Division I schools. All three Waves will compete in the open singles bracket; the main draw starts Thursday afternoon.
In doubles play, Campana and Redelijk will square off against Arizona's team of Midori Castillo and Kayla Wilkins at 10 a.m. Thursday morning. Broadus and Oklahoma State's Lucia Peyere will face TCU's duo of Helena Narmont and Margaret Polk on Thursday at 10 a.m. as well.
Later in singles, #23 Broadus takes on TCU fifth-year senior Margaret Polk at 2 p.m. PT, while #83 Redelijk and TCU's Helena Narmont face off at 3:30 p.m. PT. Campana closes out the action on day one against #26 Connie Ma of Stanford at 5:30 p.m. PT.
Last season at this tournament, Pepperdine swept the singles and doubles titles, as Janice Tjen won the singles title over Georgia's Dasha Vidmanova, while Broadus and Tjen kicked off their stellar 2022-23 season with a doubles title win over Georgia's Guillermina Grant and Dasha Vidmanova.
From here, the Waves will play in the ITA All-American Tournament, hosted in Cary, N.C. from Sept. 30 through Oct. 8. Rounding out Pepperdine's fall slate is two trips to San Diego: first for the ITA Southwest Regional (Oct. 19-23), and then for the ITA Fall Championships (Nov. 1-5), where Broadus and Tjen will defend their national doubles title.
A full spring schedule is forthcoming.
The Waves are coming off a 20-4 season in which they not only made their third straight Super Regional appearance, but also saw Broadus and Tjen earn All-American honors. Pepperdine has won the last nine West Coast Conference Tournament titles and all 11 WCC regular-season titles.
