Cross Country Ready for UC Riverside Invitational

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams will head South of Malibu for the UC Riverside Invitational this Saturday morning.

The meet will begin at 7:15 a.m. at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course in Riverside. The top runners will compete in the Invitational races (women's 6K at 7:15 a.m., men's 8K at 7:50 a.m.), and there will also be Open races (women's 5K at 8:25 a.m. and men's 8K at 8:55 a.m.). Pepperdine will participate in all four races.

Head coach Lauren Floris said: "Riverside is one of our favorite meets because the course and race atmosphere is amazing and always brings out the best in our athletes. The team is ready to roll and we are expecting exciting results out of this weekend!"

Pepperdine will have almost a month break before being back on the course at the Bronco Invitational hosted by WCC foe Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 14.

NOTABLE
- The men's and women's placed second and seventh, respectively, at the Waves Invitational last week, which was held at picturesque Alumni Park in Malibu. This was the second year in a row that the men's team collected a second-place finish. The men's squad also had six runners in the top-20.
- Senior Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) led Pepperdine in the men's 6K in a time of 18:28.7, which was good for a third-place finish. Flint was this week's West Coast Conference men's runner of the week after his performance on the Waves' home course.
- Freshman Lizzy Crawford (Thornton, Colo./Horizon HS) led the Waves' women in her collegiate debut with a time of 14:06.7 in the women's 4K, which was good for a 10th-place finish.
- The Waves had five runners make their collegiate debut.
- Last season at the UC Riverside Invitational, both squads had a combined 19 runners set new personal records for themselves.
