Waves Earn Draw Against Aztecs

SAN DIEGO, Calif.  – The Pepperdine women's soccer team earned an 1-1 draw against San Diego State on Thursday night at the SDSU Sports Deck.

The Waves (0-0-3) dominated the first half outshooting the Aztecs (2-0-1) 11-3 and went into the half still knotted at 0-0. San Diego State started to put pressure on Pepperdine in the second half, but Julia Quinonez found the back of the net first to give the Waves a 1-0 lead. Pepperdine nearly had a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute, but was ruled offside.

GOALS

Pepperdine 61': Redshirt junior defender Kam Pickett (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS) tapped a left-footed pass to freshman forward Julia Quinonez (Torrance, Calif./Torrance HS) outside of the box. Although the Aztecs' defender looked to take the ball, Quinonez did a spin move around the defender to gain control. Quinonez then approached the line on the right side of the box and sent a right-footed rocket to the top left corner past the San Diego State keeper. This was Quinonez's first career goal and first goal of the season.

San Diego State 90': The Aztecs' Alexys Ocampo sent a right-footed pass to Dori Savage in the box. Savage then tapped the ball with her right foot on the run and found the back of the net.
