MALIBU, California – The #4 Pepperdine women's tennis program cruised past Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bulldogs 7-0 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center for the Waves' 10th consecutive victory.
Pepperdine (13-2, 4-0 WCC) got things rolling early in doubles. Court three's combo of
Anna Campana (Hillsborough, Calif.) and
Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) won 6-0 on court three. To clinch the doubles point, the top-ranked duo of
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) were 6-1 on winners on court one to give the Waves an early lead over Gonzaga (11-10, 2-4 WCC) heading into singles play.
Once in singles, Pepperdine kept its foot on the gas by winning all six first sets. #14 Broadus cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win on court three over Jenna Sloan to double Pepperdine's lead. Next to finish was Redelijk who posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court five over Rose Hayes. To clinch Pepperdine's win, Campana defeated Caroline Wernli 6-3, 6-1 on court six.
The remaining three matches were played out. #30
Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph on court two over Kianna Oda.
Bunyawi Thamchaiwat (Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand) then took down Tiegan Aitken 6-3, 6-2 on court four before #10 Tjen beat Adrianna Sosnowska 6-1, 4-6, [11-9] to close out the match.
