#5 Women's Tennis Visits #24 UCLA, #74 BYU

MALIBU, California – The #5 Pepperdine women's tennis program goes back on the road for the final time in non-conference play before re-entering West Coast Conference action on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY
Pepperdine has won nine of the last 13 meetings with UCLA. The Waves have won three consecutive matches against the Bruins, including a memorable 4-3 win in the 2021 NCAA Quarterfinals. Last season, Pepperdine won 5-2 at home and 4-3 on the road over UCLA.
 
Pepperdine is 16-8 all-time against BYU, having won 11 consecutive meetings dating back to 1998. Five of the last six wins for the Waves in the series have been in shutout fashion.
 
SCOUTING THE WAVES
In its only outing last week, Pepperdine swept past Gonzaga 7-0 in Malibu on Saturday. After taking the doubles point, all six Waves won singles matches while five won in straight sets. #18 Savannah Broadus stayed perfect in dual singles play, running her record to 13-0. Her and Janice Tjen, the top-ranked doubles team in the country, are 13-2 in dual doubles action. Tjen is ranked 11th by the ITA in singles, while Lisa Zaar is ranked 30th. Zaar and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat are ranked 33rd in the doubles rankings.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
UCLA had mixed results last weekend, defeating Arizona on the road before seeing its three-match win streak end at the hands of Arizona State in Tempe. The Bruins have beaten LMU and USC this season as common opponents of Pepperdine. Two players are ranked by the ITA in singles: #19 Fangran Tian and #106 Kimmi Hance. Hance and Elise Wagle are ranked sixth in the doubles rankings.
 
BYU has dropped its last two matches after winning three straight, falling on the road to then-#29 San Diego and then-#16 Washington over the last two weeks. Also in WCC play, the Cougars have defeated San Francisco, Santa Clara, Gonzaga and Portland and have lost to LMU. Emilee Astle and Bobo Huang are ranked 64th by the ITA in doubles.
