SPOKANE, Washington – The Pepperdine men's tennis program stayed perfect in West Coast Conference action with a 4-1 win over Gonzaga on Friday afternoon at the Stevens Center.
Pepperdine (12-7, 4-0 WCC) took command early in doubles with leads on each court. Though Gonzaga (7-9, 2-3 WCC) pulled even late on all three courts, the Waves struck first as #47
Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) and
Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) took down the 85th-ranked pair from Gonzaga to open doubles. To win the doubles point,
Linus Carlsson Halldin (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) were victorious on court three to give Pepperdine an early lead heading into singles play.
Each team took three first sets in singles. #69 De Jonge doubled Pepperdine's lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court two over Oliver Andersson. Halldin then added to the advantage, sweeping past Leon Roider 6-3, 6-4 on court six.
After
Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) and Fellin forced third sets on courts three and four, Gonzaga got on the board with a straight-set win on court five. #94 Zeitvogel finished off the match with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory on the top court over Sasha Trkulja.
