PROVO, Utah — Continuing its three-game road trip, the #5 Pepperdine women's tennis team kept its unblemished record in West Coast Conference play with a 5-2 win against #74 BYU in Provo, Utah on Saturday. Saturday's win was Pepperdine's twelfth-straight over the Cougars.
The Waves (14-3, 5-0 WCC) bounced back in singles play after the Cougars (10-8, 4-3 WCC) won the doubles point. Pepperdine would win five of the six singles matches; none went to the third set. Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Emilee Astle to to the score at one apiece, then
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) beat Tina Li 6-4, 6-1 moments later to give the Waves a 2-1 lead.
Although BYU tied the score with a win on court four, Anna Campana (Hillsborough, Calif.) won 6-4, 6-3 on court six to give Pepperdine a lead it would not relinquish. Over on court one, #11
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) beat Bobo Huan 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the match.
The remaining match was played out: Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) would prevail 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) over BYU's Helen Jiao to close the book on Pepperdine's 5-2 win.
