MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's tennis program bounced back in a big way on Saturday, rolling BYU 4-0 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in the final matchup between the schools as West Coast Conference opponents.
The teams traded blows in doubles but it was Pepperdine (14-8, 6-1 WCC) who took control first with a 6-1 win on court three by
Robert Shelton (Lancaster, Pa.) and
Max Wuelfing (Manhattan Beach, Calif.). To clinch the doubles point and give Pepperdine an early lead over BYU (5-15, 3-5 WCC),
Linus Carlsson Halldin (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) were 6-4 victors on court two.
In singles, Pepperdine kept the pressure on by winning four of six first sets. Wuelfing first doubled the lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court six over Brigham Andrus. To add to the advantage, Shelton took down Redd Owen 6-1, 6-2 on court five. To close out the match and the win,
Maxi Homberg (Freising, Germany) swept past Zach Fuchs 6-3, 6-3 on court three.
