SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The #19 Pepperdine beach volleyball team rallied from a loss to #3 UCLA early in the day, taking an exciting 3-2 win over Center of Effort Challenge tournament host Cal Poly to close things out. 
 
Freshmen pair Gracey Campbell and Gabriella Perez had a good showing for Pepperdine (16-8), posting a 3-2 sets record to highlight the day.  Junior Kristine Briede and sophomore Madison Oriskovich also ended on a high note, clinching the victory over the Mustangs for the Waves.
 
The squad will continue with the tournament tomorrow at 9 a.m. against #1 TCU.

MATCH RECAPS
In the first dual of the day, UCLA came out swinging, collecting a pair of two-set wins from the No. 3 and then 1 position to put themselves in a position to close.  Another two-set win on court five would do the trick and make it 3-0 with two courts still playing.
 
Although the Bruins on court two would win on court two, Waves' Gabriella Perez and Gracey Campbell made it interesting in the No. 4 position.  After falling 21-11, the Pepperdine pair rallied back 21-16 to force a third, though the opposition would be able to close the match out with a 15-12 third set win for the sweep.
 
In the final dual against the tournament host, the Waves came out strong with a 21-10, 21-18 win in the No. 4 position courtesy of Campbell and Perez. The Mustangs then collected a pair of wins on courts two and three to gain the edge, though Pepperdine was not willing to roll over.
 
McKenna Thomas and Kate Clermont battled back from a 21-18 first set loss to take a 21-15 second set win and force a third set.  After going point-for-point until late in the action, the partnership then collected the final points necessary to secure the set 15-13 and tie the match 2-2 overall, putting all eyes on the No. 5 position. 
 
Kristine Briede and Madison Oriskovich had lost the first set in a tight 22-20 battle, and though the next set was equally as close, the Waves duo countered with a 23-21 second set win to push to a third and final set.  Briede and Oriskovich had a good hand on things in the set, eventually coming away with a 15-9 set win to clinch the overall victory to end the day on a high note for Pepperdine.
