MALIBU, California – There may not be a hotter team in the country than the #9 Pepperdine women's tennis program after the Waves defeated #35 Oklahoma State 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center for the club's fourth consecutive top-35 victory.
Doubles was back-and-forth throughout but it was Oklahoma State (7-4) who struck first, taking court two to open the match. Pepperdine (7-2) needed wins on courts one and three to secure the doubles point and, with both courts knocking on the door, #1
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) took down OSU's pair on court one, 6-4. Court three decided the doubles point, where
Anna Campana (Hillsborough, Calif.) and
Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) secured a 7-5 victory to give Pepperdine an early lead.
Pepperdine parlayed that momentum into singles, winning five of six first sets. #16 Broadus won her second ranked match of the weekend, this time taking down #107 Alana Wolfberg 6-1, 6-3 on court three. Seconds later, #29 Tjen defeated Kristina Novak 6-3, 6-3 on court one to make the Pepperdine lead 3-0.
The Cowgirls kept fighting, taking court four in straight sets. However, moments later
Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) defeated #118 Sofia Rojas 6-4, 6-4 on court five to wrap up the win for the Waves.
