#5 Women's Tennis Takes Down #21 Oklahoma

MALIBU, California – The #5 Pepperdine women's tennis program won its sixth consecutive ranked match on Friday afternoon as the Waves defeated #21 Oklahoma 4-2 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
 
Doubles was tight from beginning to end. Oklahoma (13-7) struck first with a 6-2 win on court three. Pepperdine (9-2) responded with a ranked, 6-4 win on the top court by #1 Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia). The coveted doubles point came down to court two, where #40 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat (Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand) and Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) earned a 6-4 win over the 17th-ranked doubles team in the country to give Pepperdine an early lead.
 
In singles, Pepperdine continued its momentum by taking four first sets. It was Oklahoma who earned the first singles win, however, tying the match up with a straight-set victory on court six. #17 Broadus regained the lead for the Waves by sweeping past #64 Dana Guzman 6-3, 6-1 on court three. Oklahoma followed with a straight set win on court one to even the match once again.
 
With three courts remaining, and all in third sets, Thamchaiwat inched Pepperdine closer to victory with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win on court four over Alexandra Pisareva.
 
To close out the match and give Pepperdine its seventh ranked win of the season, #29 Zaar beat #106 Carmen Corley 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 on court two.
