WCC Play Opens With Shutout For #5 Waves

LOS ANGELES, California – The #5 Pepperdine women's tennis program breezed past #52 Loyola Marymount 7-0 in the Waves' West Coast Conference opener on Sunday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center.

Pepperdine (10-2, 1-0 WCC) got things rolling early in doubles, securing a 6-2 win on the top court by #1 Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) – their second top-30 win of the weekend. The Waves took the doubles point from LMU (6-6, 1-2 WCC) with a 6-3 victory on court two by #40 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat (Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand) and Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden).

Pepperdine continued its dominance in singles, winning five of six first sets. Anna Campana (Hillsborough, Calif.) doubled the Pepperdine lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court six over Wiktoria Rutkowska. Next to the finish line was #29 Zaar who was a 6-4, 6-3 winner on court one over #81 Veronica Miroshnichenko.

Thamchaiwat cruised to a 7-5, 6-2 victory on court four over Anna Paradisi to clinch the match for the Waves.

The remaining three matches were played out. #17 Broadus took down Eva Marie Voracek 6-3, 7-5 on court three, #13 Tjen swept Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik 7-6, 6-1 on court two and Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) defeated Isabella Tcherkes-Zade 6-7, 6-1, [10-7] to complete the sweep.
