TEMPE, Arizona – The Pepperdine men's tennis program took the doubles point against Arizona State on Sunday afternoon, but a singles run gave the Sun Devils a 4-3 win at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
 
Pepperdine (1-4) fell behind early in doubles, as court three went to Arizona State (4-2). The Waves would not go away, however, forcing a tiebreak on courts one and two. With both courts in the tiebreak at the same time needing a pair of wins, #34 Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) and Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) took court one 7-6 (5). Moments later, the doubles point was clinched for the Waves when Maxi Homberg (Freising, Germany) and Max Wuelfing (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) won court three by the same score.
 
ASU took four of six first sets in singles, but it didn't stop the Waves from doubling their lead. #94 Zeitvogel dominated Max McKennon 6-2, 6-1 on court two to open singles play. The Sun Devils rattled three consecutive wins on courts three, four and six to take their first lead of the day before Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) evened the match at three all with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win on court five over Nicola Cigna. Arizona State then clinched the match on court one with a come-from-behind, three set victory.
