Pepperdine Drops to Pacific at Home

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team dropped a home West Coast Conference contest 66-59 to Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Waves (7-16, 2-11) and Tigers (10-14, 5-8) exchanged the lead nine times and were tied four times. Pepperdine came back and tied the game at 45-all late in the third quarter, but Pacific sank the last bucket of the third quarter with a two-point lead and never let up.
 
BIG WAVES
  • Graduate guard Marly Walls (Bardstown, Ky./Nelson County HS/Bucknell) led the squad with 20 points. She had four rebounds and two assists. This was the sixth game this season for Walls with 20 or more points.
  • Sophomore guard Ally Stedman (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle HS) drained 12 points and brought down five rebounds.
  • Freshman center KK Brodie (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge HS) tied her career-high in points with seven. Brodie blocked two shots and had one steal.
 
GAME RECAP
 
Stedman drained a three-point bucket to get the Waves on the board first in the first quarter. Pacific answered with a three-pointer and a layup to get a 5-3 lead. Pepperdine then had seven straight points to take over the lead, 10-5. Another five consecutive points for the Waves extended the lead to 15-7. Pacific earned two free throws within the final five seconds of the quarter and cut the deficit to six at 17-11. 
 
In the second quarter, the Tigers collected five points to cut the margin to one, 17-16. Pacific then had a six-point scoring run to take the lead 27-22. Four points for the Waves got them back within one, 27-26. With under two minutes to play, the Tigers scored four points to hold a 33-27 lead heading into the break.
 
Following halftime, the Waves and Tigers went back and forth, before the Waves had an eight-point scoring run to take the lead back, 43-42. Pacific hit one from long range to retake the lead, but Walls tied it up with a jump shot at 45-all. The Tigers put up a jumper to make it 47-45 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
In the final frame, Pacific made a basket from downtown to increase their advantage to 50-45. The Waves and Tigers exchanged baskets, before four-straight free throws from the opposition got the lead to 64-56. Walls sank a three-pointer to cut the opposition's lead to five, 64-59, but the Tigers were fouled and made two free throws to hold onto the win 66-59.

  • The Waves outshot the Tigers 33.3% to 31.7%.
  • Pacific out-rebounded Pepperdine 48 to 44.
  • The Waves had 26 paint points compared to the Tigers' 22.
