SAN MATEO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference awarded forward
Jevon Porter of the Pepperdine men's basketball team his second Freshman of the Week honor of the season, the league announced Monday.
Porter is the only freshman in the WCC to have recorded a double-double– and he currently has seven of them. The Columbia, Mo. native sits tied for third in the conference with Mitchell Saxen (SMC) and Drew Timme (GON) in total double-doubles this season, just after San Diego's Eric Williams Jr. (10) and Santa Clara's Brandin Podziemski (8).
In the Waves' 12-point win over BYU last Thursday, Porter collected a career-high 30 points and pulled down 10 boards, having accrued seven double-doubles in his debut season— his third-straight such outing. The forward shot 71.4% from the field and 60% from beyond the arc while snatching two steals on the other end. At San Francisco, Porter delivered 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds while going for a spotless 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
