SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Pepperdine women's tennis players Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen forced a tiebreak third set in the ITA National Fall Championships, but couldn't finish off Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru of Oklahoma State in a 3-6, 6-1, (4-10) semifinal loss on Saturday.

The first set was played on serve until Oklahoma State broke Pepperdine on deuce point in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead. Homar and Oby Kajuru held serve to take the first set 6-3, then broke the Waves right off the bat in the second set to have a 1-0 advantage.

Yet as Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) have been wont to do, the Waves duo flipped the match's script dramatically. After winning deuce point to break back in the next game, Broadus and Tjen rattled off five-straight games to take the second set 6-1. Except for the fifth game, the second set was lopsided in favor of the Waves; the set reached deciding point only one time.

In the tiebreak, Pepperdine broke first for a 1-0 lead, yet Oklahoma State won the next four points to go up 4-1 at the changeover. Broadus and Tjen broke Oklahoma State late in the tiebreak by fending off match point twice, but Komar and Oby Kajuru would win on the next point to punch their tickets to the ITA National Fall Championship doubles match.

With Saturday's result, the nation will have a new fall doubles champion. Broadus and Tjen won the ITA National Fall Doubles title last season, which propelled them to the No. 1 doubles ranking they currently have. Oklahoma State's team will play North Carolina's Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty in the final tomorrow at noon.
