CARY, N.C. — Pepperdine junior Savannah Broadus saw her stint in the ITA All-American Tournament end against Auburn's Carolyn Ansari in the consolation singles semifinals on Saturday morning.

Playing against her fourth nationally ranked singles player in the tournament in as many days, #23 Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) ran out of gas against #22 Ansari in the Auburn graduate senior's 7-6 (3), 6-3 win.

In the first set, Ansari struck first by breaking Broadus to take an early lead, but Broadus broke back. From that point forward, both players traded breaks until Broadus held serve to take a 4-3 lead after the seventh game. For the first time in the match, Ansari held serve to tie things up at four games apiece, then Broadus rattled off four-straight points to take a 5-4 lead.

But in spite of Ansari struggling at the service line in the next set, the Auburn graduate senior held serve in a critical deuce point, which eventually led to a tiebreak. Like the first set, the breaker kicked off with two breaks of serve before Ansari held at 2-1, then broke Broadus in the next point to keep a lead she wouldn't relinquish.

Although Ansari would take a 5-0 lead in the second set, Broadus tried mounting another heroic comeback by taking the next three games with relative ease. Broadus didn't face match point until the ninth and final game when she tried breaking Ansari to extend the match.

Overall, the Pepperdine junior went 2-2 in the ITA All-American Tournament — including her career-best win over a #5 Reese Brantmeier of North Carolina.
