Lewis Records Double-Double Against Pacific

MALIBU, Calif. – Sophomore Maxwell Lewis recorded his first double-double of the season but the Waves could not complete the win against Pacific, falling 80-75 in Firestone on Saturday night.

Lewis tied his career-high in scoring at 30 points and pulled down 14 boards for the Waves. It is Lewis's second time scoring 30 points in his career, as well as his 15th double-figure scoring output this season and seventh-straight game scoring 20 or more.

BIG WAVES
  • Sophomore Maxwell Lewis's (Las Vegas, Nev./AZ Compass Prep) double-double led the Waves and added a new career-high in rebounds at 14, shooting 9-for-20 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free throw line.
  • Sophomore Carson Basham (Phoenix, Ariz./AZ Compass Prep) contributed 12 points and two major blocks on the night.
  • Freshman Jalen Pitre (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly/Woodstock Academy) pulled down a career-high 10 boards and recorded two steals while scoring six points.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
At the start, Pacific hit the game's first two buckets until a Basham post move and a Lewis and-1 put the Waves on the board. Basham continued to pound the paint but fouls plagued Pepperdine early on, rewarding the Tigers at the free throw line. Pitre nailed a baseline three as the shot clock wound down halfway through the period, followed by a Houston Mallette triple from the top of the key to tie the game at 16-all with 10 minutes left. Lewis scored the last five points for the Waves off of free throws and another bucket-and-foul to put Pepperdine within three at the buzzer.

Free throws ruled the second half, as Lewis scored the first three Waves buckets of the half from the line, followed by two Porter charity shots to tie the game back up at 42. Two more Lewis FTs gave Pepperdine the lead with 18 minutes left, but scoring went back and forth for most of the half. Pitre's defensive effort helped propel the Waves forward as Lewis' offensive output gave the home team their biggest lead of the game at 70-65 with just over six minutes left to play. A dagger three from Pacific put the Tigers up 74-72 and ignited a six-point run in the opposition's favor. Mitchell Jr. scored the last points for Pepperdine on a three to get the Waves within a single possession, but two Pacific free throws sealed the win for the Tigers at 80-75.
