MALIBU, California – For the second time this season,
Charli Sunahara and
Amanda Wong of the Pepperdine women's swim and dive team have been named the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference swimmer and diver of the week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Sunahara (Chino, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala HS) took home a victory in the 100 breast against Fresno State in the Waves' first dual meet of the spring semester. She also took first in the 200 breast, posting a time that rivaled her rested tech suit time back in November. The freshman has also been one of Pepperdine's fastest breaststroke splits for the medley relay and the program's fastest 200 IM dual time this season.
Wong (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill HS) had standout performances at the Bruin Diving Invite over the weekend. Against over 50 divers from across the country, the freshman placed highest for the Waves in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter competitions. She also completed a 405c for the first time in competition and scored nearly 50 points on that dive.
These are the seventh and eighth weekly awards for the Waves this season.
Vivian Vallely and
Jenna Sanchez were athletes of the week on November 8, while Sunahara, Wong and
AJ Adams were named the conference's athletes of the week on October 18.
Delainey Pisaruk was named the PCSC diver of the week on November 15.
Pepperdine hosts San Diego and Loyola Marymount this Friday and Saturday, January 20-21. Friday's meet begins at 2 p.m., while Saturday's start is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Both days will be streamed on the WCC Network.
