MALIBU, California – Curtis Jarvis scored four goals and the #9 Pepperdine men's water polo team bounced back in a big way with a dominating 20-5 win over #18 Brown at
Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on Sunday morning.
After falling in Saturday's home opener to Loyola Marymount, the Waves (4-6) doubled their scoring from the day before and clamped down defensively on the Bears (7-4).
The Waves were near-perfect on the power play, going 6-for-7, compared to 1-for-9 for the Bears.
BIG WAVES
- Senior attacker Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) had a season-high four goals.
- Senior center Nicholas Fichman (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Golden West College) and senior center Austin Smit (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) both scored three times, matching the season high for both.
- Graduate attacker Dennis Blyashov (Carlsbad, Calif./Harvard) had three assists to go with his two goals, while junior attacker Anthony D'Ambra (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) also had three assists.
GAME RECAP
After Brown tied the game at one, the Waves ran off seven straight goals, with Jarvis and Smit each scoring two, to build an 8-1 lead with about 5 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter. The Waves hit double-figures at the 6:16 mark in the third period, as a Blyashov goal made it 10-3. Jarvis scored twice more in an eight-goal third period, and the Waves led 17-5 heading into the final quarter. For the second straight day, the Waves didn't allow a fourth-period goal.
