Pepperdine to Compete at UC Riverside Invitational

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams are back on the course after a one-week break and will race at the UC Riverside Invitational this Saturday morning.

The meet will begin at 7:15 a.m. at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course in Riverside. The top runners will compete in the Invitational races (women's 6K at 7:15 a.m., men's 8K at 7:50 a.m.), and there will also be Open races (women's 5K at 8:25 a.m. and men's 8K at 8:55 a.m.). Pepperdine will participate in all four races.

Head coach Lauren Floris said: "We're excited to return to the UCR Invitational again this season. The course is fast and the competition is always good so we're expecting to see lots of PRs and fast times from the Waves this weekend!"

Pepperdine will have another one-week break before hosting the Waves Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1. This will be the first meet the Waves have hosted since 2017 and it will take place at picturesque Alumni Park. There will be a community 5K race, prior to the collegiate men's and women's races.

NOTABLE
- The men's and women's teams placed fourth and eighth, respectively, at the Mark Covert Classic two weeks ago to open the 2022 season.
- Junior Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) led the Waves with a third-place finish at the Mark Covert Classic.
- Graduate student Will Bullock (Marietta, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain HS/Eastern Illinois) was second for the Waves in 17th place in Brea, Calif.
- Sophomore Elias Spence (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area HS) collected a new personal record in the men's 8K with a time of 25:59.7, which was 5.6 seconds faster than his previous best, and an 18th-place finish.
- Sophomore Megan LaCamera (Burbank, Calif./Burbank HS) led the Waves' women with a 32nd-place finish in a time of 19:43.6, which was a new personal record by 10.3 seconds.
- Junior Elle Shrader (Boerne, Texas/Boerne-Samuel V. Champion HS) also notched a new personal record in the women's 5K in a time of 20:28.6, which was 11.9 seconds faster.
- Freshmen Patrick Thomas (Paso Robles, Calif/Mission College Prep) and Savannah Shaw (Downington, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) made their Waves' debuts and each collected one of the top five times for Pepperdine at the Mark Covert Classic. Thomas was the fourth Wave to cross the finish line in the men's 8K in a time of 26:58.5, which was good for 38th place. Shaw was the fifth Wave in the women's 5K in a time of 20:43.0, which was good for 70th place.
