PALO ALTO, California – The #9 Pepperdine men's water polo team got two goals apiece from
Adam Csapo,
Travis Reynolds and
Nico Tierney, but the Waves fell on the road to #4 Stanford, 15-8, in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The Waves (2-3) were hoping to hand the Cardinal (5-0) its first loss of the season.
BIG WAVES
- Freshman attacker Adam Csapo (Budapest, Hungary) ran his team-best total to 15 goals this season.
- Junior center defender Nico Tierney (Sierra Madre, Calif./Harvard-Westlake HS) and junior center Travis Reynolds (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Loyola HS) both had their second multi-goal games of the season.
GAME RECAP
The Waves never led, as the Cardinal scored the first two goals of the game, and went up 4-1 after the first period. The two teams played evenly in the second quarter, with each side scoring four times, including two on backhands by Reynolds. Tierney started the third period with a 5-meter penalty to get the Waves within two at 8-6, but Pepperdine only scored twice more the rest of the game, including about a 10-minute drought over the third and fourth quarters.
