Women's Tennis Announces 2022-23 Schedule

MALIBU, California – Coming off West Coast Conference regular season and tournament titles and a spot in the NCAA quarterfinals, the Pepperdine women's tennis program has announced its schedule for the 2022 fall campaign as well as the 2023 spring dual season.

In addition to three ITA-sanctioned events – the ITA All-American Championship (October 1-9), ITA Southwest Regional (October 20-24) and the ITA Fall National Championship (November 2-6) – the Waves will compete in the Battle of the Bay (September 22-25), the Jack Kramer Invitational (November 4-6) and the Freeman Memorial Championship (January 13-15, 2023).

Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) started her college career in style last season, winning the singles title at the Battle of the Bay. Broadus and former Wave Anastasia Iamachkine claimed the doubles title.

Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) took home the singles title at the ITA Southwest Regional last season and will look to defend her crown in San Diego this October.

The spring will be another grueling slate for the Waves, who will face at least 12 NCAA Tournament squads from last season. Michigan (March 4), Oklahoma State (March 5), UCLA (March 10), Ohio State (March 14), and California (April 7) are all programs that Pepperdine will host in the spring, each of whom won an NCAA Tournament match last season. In addition, the defending NCAA runner-up – Oklahoma – comes to Malibu on March 24.

In marquee road matches against teams that advanced to at least the Round of 32 last season, Pepperdine will visit California (January 21), Stanford (February 4), Florida (February 24), Central Florida (February 26), USC (March 11) and UCLA (April 12).

Once again, Pepperdine will host the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on January 28-29. The Waves will face Clemson in the first round, with Memphis and Columbia also competing. The winner of the four-team regional will head to Seattle, Wash., for the ITA National Indoor Team Championships from February 10-13.

"This schedule will require our players to mature quickly and learn how to maximize their training sessions to improve each day," head coach Per Nilsson said. "It's a fun challenge and we are excited to get started."

Last season the Waves advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the third time in the last five full seasons. Pepperdine went 23-7 and finished the season ranked #8 in the country.
