SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The #16 Pepperdine beach volleyball team stayed undefeated to open day one of the West Coast Conference Championships, sweeping past Pacific and then downing Saint Mary's 3-2.
The Waves (21-10) advance through the winner's bracket with the wins, and will face #5 LMU tomorrow, April 30 to kick off the second day of the tournament. The winner will advance to the championship match at 1:30, while the loser will have to play through the elimination bracket at 12 p.m. as well.

MATCH RECAPS
In the first match, the Waves dominated the Tigers on all courts, collecting first set wins to set the tone.
Simone Priebe and
McKenna Thomas crushed their opposition on court two, posting a 21-7, 21-4 result in the No. 2 position to put the Waves ahead first.
Melanie Paul and
Madison Shields then put down their opposition on court one with a 21-8, 21-5 final score to put Pepperdine in a position to clinch.
Rio Frohoff and
Savana Greene clinched the overall with a 21-12, 21-7 win on court five to put the Waves ahead in the winner's bracket.
Cameron Baklenko and
Kate Clermont and
Peyton Lewis and
Juju Quintero also took care of business on court three and four with 21-9, 21-15 and 21-16, 21-18 wins respectively.
The second match seemed tight towards the end, but the Waves clinched relatively early on. Paul and Shields downed their opponents 21-13, 21-15 on court one to kick things off and Frohoff and Greene put the squad in a position to clinch with a 21-14, 21-17 win on court five.
Priebe and Thomas then clinched the overall with a well-fought 24-22, 21-17 win in the No. 2 position. Saint Mary's was able to take wins on courts three and four.
NEXT UP
Tomorrow, the Waves will go head-to-head with PCH Cup rival LMU at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, April 30 in Santa Monica. The winner will advance to the WCC Championship match at 1:30 p.m., while the loser will have to work through another round at 12 p.m.
