MALIBU, California – For the second time this season,
Victoria Flores and
Lisa Zaar of the Pepperdine women's tennis program have been named the West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Playing from the top spot, the 25
th-ranked pair of Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) clinched the doubles point for the Waves with a 6-3 victory in the team's win over San Diego on Saturday, propelling the Waves to their 10
th-straight West Coast Conference regular-season championship. The duo improved to 4-5 this dual season playing together solely from the number one position.
Out of seven WCC Doubles Team of the Week honors given out this season, Pepperdine received five of them.
Savannah Broadus and
Janice Tjen are two-time honorees (March 15 and March 22), while Broadus and
Shiori Fukuda were honored on April 12. Flores and Zaar also won the award on March 29.
Pepperdine begins the WCC Tournament on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the semifinals, facing either #4 BYU or #5 Saint Mary's in Ojai.
