Women's Tennis Wins 10th Consecutive WCC Regular Season Title

MALIBU, Calif. – For the 10th time in program history, the #9 Pepperdine women's tennis program has won the regular-season title in the West Coast Conference after defeating #44 San Diego 6-1 on Saturday morning at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

Apart from the shortened 2020 season where very few WCC matches were played, this is also the 10th-straight year that Pepperdine (18-6, 7-0) has claimed the league's regular-season crown.

The Waves got things going early in doubles, as the 25th-ranked pair of Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) posted a 6-3 victory on court two to open up the morning. With both courts one and three near a clinch, court one's 23rd-ranked pair of Victoria Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) also won a 6-3 decision to take the doubles point over San Diego (13-5, 4-2 WCC).

Pepperdine kept the momentum in singles after taking four first sets. #94 Broadus was the first singles winner of the day, dispatching Victoria Kalaitzis on court five, 6-0, 6-1. #102 Tjen continued her dominant play with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set win on court three over Jordyn McBride. #57 Flores clinched the outright championship for the Waves with another straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-0, over Jessi Muljat on court six.

Courts one, two and four played out to completion. USD claimed a ranked victory on the top court for its first point of the day. #36 Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) got the Waves on the board once again with a 4-6, 6-4, [10-7] win over Elizabeth Goldsmith on court three in an abbreviated third set.

To finish up the afternoon, #26 Zaar took care of business on court four, winning 6-4, 7-5 over Claudia De Las Heras.
