Men's Golf Second After Two Rounds at Pasatiempo

SANTA CRUZ, California – The Pepperdine men's golf team stands in second place after Tuesday's second round at the Western Intercollegiate but is just four shots back of the lead as the Waves seek their second straight win at this event.

The Waves have a two-day total of a +27 731 (370-361) at the play-six, count-five event being held at the par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Club. Texas was one shot back of Pepperdine after the first round but now leads by four.

The course has played much tougher than last year, when Pepperdine won this tournament with a three-day score of 4-under.

PLAYER SCORES

Junior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for second place at 142 (70-72), three strokes behind the leader. He had three birdies in his first seven holes and finished with four on the day. He's going for his second straight victory after recently winning the Valspar Collegiate Invitational.
Junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for eighth at 145 (76-69). He had one of just four below-par rounds recorded today, and his 1-under included birdies on 1 and 17.
Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 11th at 146 (73-73). He had one birdie on Tuesday. He's the defending individual champion at the Western Intercollegiate.
Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 14th at 147 (73-74). He posted two birdies today.
Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 35th at 151 (78-73). His second round began with back-to-back birdies.
Freshman Ian Maspat (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) is tied for 80th at 161 (83-78). He had one birdie on Tuesday.

UP NEXT

Pepperdine, Texas, San Diego State and Washington will be paired together for Wednesday's final round. They'll start on the first tee beginning at 8:54 a.m. The Golf Channel will have live coverage from 1-4 p.m.
