Women's Golf Off to Good Start at Chambers Bay

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Washington – The Pepperdine women's golf team had a strong first day at the Chambers Bay Invitational and stands in third place after playing 36 holes on Monday.
 
The Waves shot 590 (300-290) at the par-72 Chambers Bay Golf Course and trail only UCLA and Washington. Four of the five West Coast Conference schools are at this event and Pepperdine leads BYU by 18, San Francisco by 20 and Gonzaga by 33.
 
PLAYER SCORES
  • Junior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is in seventh place at 146 (77-69). She had one birdie in the morning, and then four in the afternoon en route to a 3-under 69, which was the best score of the second round.
  • Sophomore Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for eighth at 147 (77-70). She bounced back after a first round that included two birdies to post six of them in the second round, leading to a 2-under 70. Five of the birdies came in a seven-hole stretch.
  • Graduate Megan Dennis (Bedfordshire, United Kingdom) is tied for 11th at 148 (70-78). Her first-round score of 2-under included five birdies.
  • Sophomore Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for 17th at 150 (77-73). Five of her seven birdies came in the second round.
  • Freshman Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 41st at 154 (76-78). She had three birdies in each round.
UP NEXT
 
Tuesday's third and final round will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The Waves will be paired with UCLA, Washington and Denver.
