SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The #5 Pepperdine women's tennis program added another ranked win to its resume on Wednesday afternoon, having little trouble with #29 UC Santa Barbara in a two-hour, 4-0 win over the Gauchos at the Arnhold Tennis Center.
UCSB (9-6) took court three in doubles to begin the afternoon, but Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia), ranked 16th nationally, earned a 6-2 win on court two over the ranked pair of Honer and Reuter to remain perfect on the season. The doubles point came down to court one, where the 17th-ranked duo of Victoria Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) claimed a 6-4 win over #60 Khatamova and Volodko, securing another doubles point for Pepperdine (11-3).
The Waves started fast in singles, taking all six first sets. #79 Tjen was the first winner on court three, taking down Camille Kiss 6-1, 6-3. #82 Broadus was next for the Waves, winning court four over Amelia Honer 6-1, 6-0 to open up a 3-0 lead for Pepperdine.
#9 Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan), the reigning West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week, clinched the match for Pepperdine with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court one over #105 Shakhnoza Khatamova.
