MALIBU, California – The #8 Pepperdine women's tennis program cleaned up the weekly West Coast Conference awards on Tuesday, as
Shiori Fukuda was named the WCC Singles Player of the Week while
Savannah Broadus and
Janice Tjen won their second consecutive WCC Doubles Team of the Week honor.
After missing three matches due to injury, #18 Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) returned to the court in style, taking down sixth-ranked Eryn Cayetano in straight sets from the one position, helping the Waves knock off #18 USC for the ninth time in a row on Saturday. Fukuda improved to 6-1 this dual season, playing solely from the top spot.
The ninth-ranked doubles pair in the country, Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) remained perfect in the dual season at 11-0 with a 6-1 win over their USC counterparts on Saturday, sparking the doubles point for Pepperdine and leading the #8 Waves past USC.
This is the first career weekly award for Fukuda and the second consecutive weekly recognition for Broadus and Tjen.
Pepperdine heads north tomorrow (Wednesday) to face UC Santa Barbara. First serve is at 3:00 p.m.
