GAME RECAP

Pepperdine came out swinging in the top of the first inning. Peck led off the game with a single and Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling HS) was able to advance Peck to second on a ground ball to the pitcher. Malinchak singled up the middle, which moved Peck to third and gave the Waves runners on the corners with one out. On a Roadrunners' wild pitch, Malinchak moved into scoring position. Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Conley roped a two-run double to give the Waves an early 2-0 lead. Lingley followed Conley with a double of his own that extended the Pepperdine lead to 4-0.

In the top of the third inning, the Waves drew two walks and were hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Landis hit a two-run single to left field to make it 6-0. The Roadrunners answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning after a grand slam to left field to make it 6-4. Pepperdine took advantage of an error by CSU Bakersfield, in the top of the sixth inning, which scored another run for the Waves at 7-4.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Roadrunners scored another run, on a wild pitch, to get within two at 7-5. In the final frame, Lingley led off with a single to right center. Luke Pemberton (Boulder, Colo./Boulder HS) pinch ran for Lingley and advanced to second on a CSU Bakersfield throwing error. A ground ball moved Pemberton to third base and Cole Sheehan (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) was intentionally walked. Another intentional walk for the Waves loaded the bases with one out. A sacrifice fly to right field by Peck scored the eighth run for Pepperdine. Another error by the Roadrunners landed Bradshaw at second base, which scored two runs to make it 10-5.

The Roadrunners answered back again with another grand slam by Andrew Allanson to get within one at 10-9. The tying run for CSU Bakersfield was in scoring position, but Davis Luikart (Austin, Texas/Regents School of Austin) with a quick glove grabbed the final out on a ground ball to hold on to the Pepperdine win and earn his first save as a Wave.
