Men's Golf Finishes Third at NIT

TUCSON, Arizona – Dylan Menante fired an 8-under 64 to help the Pepperdine men's golf team to a third-place finish at Arizona's NIT on Saturday.

The Waves had a two-day score of a 28-under 836 (283-277-276) at the par-72 Catalina Course at the OMNI Tucson National Resort. The Waves were one of four top-10 teams at the event, and there were nine top-30 teams in the Golfstat ratings. The Waves, #9 by Golfstat, couldn't catch #2 Oklahoma State (811) or #12 Texas (832), but posted head-to-head wins against the likes of #1 Oklahoma, #5 Arkansas and #13 Tennessee.

The Waves' team score of 12-under tied the second-best round of the day and helped them move up two spots. Menante's 64 tied the best of the third round.

PLAYER SCORES
- Junior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) tied his career-best score with his 8-under. He finished in a tie for seventh place with a 10-under 206 (74-68-64). He had a total of seven birdies on the day and an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole, while notching only one bogey. His finish moved him up 22 spots in the final standings.
- Playing as an individual, junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) also tied for seventh with a 10-under 206 (65-72-69). His final round 3-under included six birdies, with three straight coming on holes 13, 14 and 15. Mouw had a team-best 17 birdies for the tournament.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) tied for ninth with a 9-under 207 (69-68-70). He had four birdies en route to a 2-under on Saturday.
- Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) tied for 21st with a 5-under 211 (69-70-72). His even-par final round had four birdies, three coming on the back nine.
- Freshman Ian Maspat (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) tied for 65th at 219 (71-71-77). His final round began with three straight birdies and he had four on the day.
- Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for 77th at 222 (76-76-70). His 2-under included seven birdies, with four of them coming in a six-hole stretch on the back nine.
