MALIBU, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis program opened West Coast Conference play strong on Saturday, defeating BYU 7-0 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
Pepperdine (9-3, 1-0 WCC) made quick work of doubles, as
Anastasia Iamachkine (Lima, Peru) and
Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) were the first winners at 6-2 on court three. The doubles point was clinched by the ninth-ranked doubles pair in the country,
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia), who were also 6-2 winners on court two.
The Waves took five first sets from BYU (6-8, 0-1 WCC) and #88 Tjen was the first singles winner, blowing past Anastasia Abramyan 6-0, 6-2 on court two. Broadus was next, taking court three from Yujia Huang 6-1, 6-0, giving the Waves a 3-0 match lead.
Redelijk clinched the match for Pepperdine with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Madison Smith on court five.
With the match in hand, the remaining three matches played to completion, and Iamachkine took down Kara Lin on court six, 6-3, 6-4 to give Pepperdine a 5-0 lead. #22
Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) was victorious in her match, a 7-5, 6-0 win on court one over Leah Heimuli.

Victoria Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) defeated Emilee Astle on court four to finish out the afternoon, 4-6, 7-6 (1), [10-5].
