#5 Waves Ready for ITA Indoors

MALIBU, California – The #5 Pepperdine women's tennis program will participate in its sixth-straight ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Friday with its second-straight ranked opponent, taking on #17 Old Dominion on the campus of the University of Wisconsin. The tournament runs through Monday.

SERIES HISTORY: This is the first-ever meeting between Pepperdine and Old Dominion. The Waves battled Cal just three weeks ago on Saturday, January 22, in a top-10 matchup with the Bears pulling out a 4-3 win in Malibu. This snapped a four-game win streak in the series for Pepperdine. The Waves hold a 6-0 record all-time against Texas A&M, with the most recent victory coming in the opening round of the 2017 ITA National Team Indoor Championships in New Haven, Conn.

SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine gathered its first ranked win of the season, a 5-2 decision over #19 UCLA at home on February 5. The Waves dropped doubles but rallied to win four of six singles matches. Pepperdine has gotten significant production from the top of its singles lineup, with #31 Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) and #10 Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) combining to go 7-0 from the one and two spots. In doubles, Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) are a perfect 4-0 from the number two position, while the team has gone 7-2 in doubles as a whole.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Old Dominion has faced three ranked opponents in its first five matches, going 1-2 in those and 3-2 overall on the young season. The Monarchs have lost two straight, dropping road matches at #13 Florida and at #23 Miami (Fla.). They hold wins this spring over Penn State, #12 Georgia Tech and Mississippi. #4 California had won four straight to open the season before suffering its first loss on Tuesday, February 8 at #20 Michigan. Texas A&M is off to its best start in school history at 9-0. The Aggies most recently defeated SMU 6-1 on Sunday, February 6.
