SAN FRANCISCO, California – The Pepperdine women's basketball team dropped a road contest to San Francisco 78-57 on Saturday afternoon.
The Dons (12-11, 6-5) outshot the Waves (7-10, 3-5) at 47.6% to 37%.
BIG WAVES
- Freshman Ally Stedman (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle HS) led the Waves with 17 points. She made four three-pointers and had one rebound.
- Freshman Meaali'i Amosa (Garden Grove, Calif./Mater Dei HS) notched eight points by shooting 4-for-8. She had a career-high five assists and brought down eight rebounds.
- Redshirt junior Becky Obinma (Menifee, Calif./Rosary Academy/Texas Christian) collected seven points by shooting 2-for-4. She grabbed seven rebounds and had three blocked shots.
GAME RECAP
The Dons hit the first basket of the game from long range and the Waves followed it up with a jumper from Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) and two free throws from Stedman to get ahead by one at 4-3. Amosa banked a layup to tie the game at 11 apiece, but the Dons went on a 12-point scoring run to close out the first quarter at 23-11.
In the second quarter, Jane Nwaba (Carson, Calif./Palisades Charter HS) scored a basket to cut the deficit to 10 at 23-13. San Francisco extended the lead on a five-point scoring run at 32-17. Pepperdine had five consecutive points on a three-point play from
Kendyl Carson (Juneau, Alaska/Juneau Douglas HS) and a layup from Obinma. The Waves and Dons went back and forth with shots, but San Francisco had the final five points of the quarter to go into the half at 42-25.
The Waves and Dons went head to head with baskets at the start of the third quarter, but San Francisco held the lead at 49-30. Stedman hit back-to-back three point baskets to cut the San Francisco margin to 11, at 53-42. San Francisco made the last layup of the quarter to head into the fourth quarter at 61-46.
San Francisco started the fourth quarter with eight consecutive points to increase the lead at 69-46. The Waves had another five-point scoring run to get the score at 69-51. Three free throws for the Dons gave them the largest lead of the game at 74-52. Obinma hit two free throws in the final minute of play to get the score at 76-57, but the Dons had the last shot and collected the win.

- The Waves had a better free-throw percentage than the Dons at 78.6% to 73.3%.
- San Francisco forced 19 turnovers compared to Pepperdine's 13.
- The Dons out-rebounded the Waves 39-30.
