#5 Women's Tennis Breezes By #4 Cal to Advance to Semis of ITA Indoors

MADISON, Wisconsin – The #5 Pepperdine women's team won four straight singles matches on Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships after defeating #4 California, 4-1, at the Nielsen Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.
Pepperdine (5-1) was able to avenge its only loss of the season to date, a 4-3 California win on January 22 in Malibu.
Cal (5-2) struck first by edging Pepperdine in doubles. Court three went to the Bears, 7-5, and court one soon followed with a 6-4 win for Cal. Court two was at 5-5 when it was abandoned.
In singles on court four, #90 Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) got things going for Pepperdine with her second win in as many days, 7-5, 6-3, to tie the score up at one. #16 Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) battled back after dropping the first set to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 on court one to give Pepperdine a 2-1 lead.
With four courts remaining, and all going to three sets, #71 Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) earned a three-set win over #99 Hannah Viller Moeller, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 and #8 Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) rolled in the third set over #110 Valentina Ivanov, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 to clinch the match for the Waves while sending them to the semifinals.
